Skaggs School of Pharmacy Alumni Association Collects Over 500 Pairs of Socks for Those in Need

Written by SOP Communications | November 25, 2024

The University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Alumni Association is proud to announce the successful collection of over 500 pairs of socks as part of their "Socks of Comfort" initiative. This effort aims to provide essential warmth and protection to those in need in the Denver Metro area.

According to the national Sock it to 'Em campaign, those experiencing homelessness can walk miles a day, in cold, wet weather, and clean, dry socks, are the most requested item at shelters. They are also the least donated. These socks will make a difference for those in need, just as Colorado's weather is starting to turn frigid.

"We are deeply grateful to our alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community partners for their generosity and support," said Dr. Harold Okocha, PharmD ’12, President of the CU Pharmacy Alumni Association. "These socks will provide not only warmth but also a sense of care and community to those in need during the colder months."

The donations were delivered last week to three vital community organizations: the Comitis Crisis Center, the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, and the Colorado Community Church. These groups play a critical role in supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness by offering shelter, resources, and hope. Members of the alumni board were joined by CU Pharmacy Dean, Ralph Altiere, PhD, for the deliveries.

""It really exemplified the spirit of giving and community having our dean join us in delivering socks from our drive," sad Jaron Bryant, Alumni Manager. "It truly helped in making a meaningful impact for those in need. I hope it inspires us all to put compassion in action."

The CU Pharmacy Alumni Association invites everyone to join in future initiatives. Through collective efforts, we can help our communities thrive.
