Chancellor Don Elliman and members of the campus leadership team have traveled to Washington, D.C., over the past several months to meet with members of Colorado’s congressional delegation.

These visits have provided opportunities to advocate for our campus and our people, share success stories and raise concerns about actions at the federal level with impacts for our mission.

Most recently, Chancellor Elliman and School of Medicine Dean John Sampson, MD, PhD, MBA, met with Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper and representatives from six of eight Colorado districts. They reiterated the campus’s deep concerns about delays and disruptions in federal research funding and emphasized the vital importance of federal programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.

They strongly advocated for CU Anschutz, showcasing the campus’s ongoing contributions to groundbreaking research and innovation that improve lives across Colorado and beyond.

In these uncertain times, they also conveyed the concerns of our faculty, students and staff, reaffirming the campus’s unwavering commitment to its mission of advancing health and well-being through education, research and patient care.

In April, vice chancellor for research, Thomas Flaig, MD, and Massimo Ruzzene, senior vice chancellor for research and innovation at CU Boulder, met with members of our congressional offices on Capitol Hill. Dr. Flaig shared about the many ways that CU Anschutz is advancing new discoveries in human health and the critical role of federal funding in driving this important work.
