Dr. Flaig to lead national biomedical research steering committee

CU Anschutz Vice Chancellor for Research Thomas Flaig, MD, has been named chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Biomedical Research Advancement, Training and Oversight Group Steering Committee for 2026-27.

In this leadership role, Dr. Flaig will help guide vital discussions shaping priorities around biomedical research impacting academic medicine in the U.S. A recognized expert in clinical/translational oncology research and an experienced research administrator, Dr. Flaig has also served in prominent roles with the National Cancer Institute/National Clinical Trial Network and the National Comprehensive Care Network.

“I’m excited to be a part of this group with great potential to increase collaboration among researchers, educators and regulatory leaders in the biomedical arena,” Dr. Flaig said. “Serving on this steering committee is a meaningful opportunity to contribute, and I’m thankful to the AAMC for convening a group with such an important role to play in advancing research, medical education and academic medicine across the country.”

CU Anschutz is a member of the AAMC, a nonprofit association of medical schools, academic societies, and academic health systems and teaching hospitals.

The Biomedical Research Advancement, Training and Oversight Group is part of the AAMC’s affinity group structure, bringing together top research leaders from medical schools and academic health systems nationwide to identify emerging issues, share best practices and develop resources that support biomedical research nationwide.
