CU Cancer Center member Andrea Dwyer, who leads the Colorado Cancer Screening Program at CU Anschutz, emphasizes the importance of early cancer detection, especially for preventable cancers like lung, breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer. Screenings are often covered by insurance or available for free, but barriers such as cost, stigma, and accessibility prevent many Coloradans, particularly in Latino, Black, and rural communities, from getting tested. New, less invasive options, like at-home FIT kits for colorectal cancer, are helping to increase participation in screening programs.
