What led you to choose the ColoradoSPH Biostatistics & Informatics Department for your PhD studies?
I was drawn to the department because of the diversity of research areas among the faculty. I also appreciated the supportive and relaxed atmosphere, as well as the natural environment in Colorado, which makes it a great place to study and live.
Why did you choose to study biostatistics?
My undergraduate background was in statistics, and I became interested in biostatistics because it provides clear and meaningful applications for statistical methods, especially in health and medical research.
What has been your favorite class so far?
One of my favorite classes has been BIOS 7731, PhD Theory. The course was taught in a very rigorous and solid way, and I found it especially helpful for building a strong theoretical foundation.
How would you describe the student community in the department?
The student community is friendly and supportive. The overall atmosphere is relaxed, and students are generally willing to help and learn from each other.
Tell us about a project you are currently working on that you are excited about.
I am currently working on a CT imaging project with Professor Fuyong Xing. The project focuses on identifying cysts on the pancreas. I find it exciting because pancreatic cysts can be very small and difficult to detect, which makes the problem both challenging and meaningful.
What advice would you give to prospective students applying to this program?
I would suggest thinking carefully about what you need most from a PhD program. Different programs have different strengths and environments, so understanding your own priorities can help you choose a program that fits you well.
What do you like to do outside of research? Or What do you like about living in Colorado?
I enjoy that Colorado is very close to the mountains, so it is easy to spend time outdoors. I also like the Mexican food here.
