The Injury and Violence Prevention Center (IVPC) at the Colorado School of Public Health and University of Colorado School of Medicine, at CU Anschutz Medical Campus, has released its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting research, partnerships, and community impact from January 2024 through July 2025.

The report reflects a year of continued growth for IVPC, showcasing how the Center advances injury and violence prevention through evidence-informed research, cross-sector collaboration, and community-engaged approaches across Colorado and beyond. IVPC’s work spans the lifespan and focuses on strengthening prevention systems, supporting families, and preparing the next generation of public health leaders.

Research advancing prevention

The 2025 Annual Report highlights IVPC’s robust research portfolio, including more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and over 60 active funded projects. Research areas include prevention of injury topics such as firearm injury, drug overdose, transportation safety, adult falls, child maltreatment, traumatic injury, partner violence and community violence.

Featured research studies emphasize translating research into practice, such as statewide evaluations of firearm injury prevention policies,  studies examining the effects of cannabis on driving behavior, and innovative uses of technology for prevention. Community-engaged research projects based in Colorado further demonstrate IVPC’s leadership in applied injury and violence prevention.

Strengthening systems through partnership

Collaboration remains central to IVPC’s mission. The report highlights partnerships with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, including the Colorado Office of Gun Violence Prevention, as well as key campus partnerships, such as the Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative, among others.

Through these collaborations, IVPC supported statewide data dashboards, public-facing resource banks, policy-relevant evaluations, and training for injury and violence prevention professionals, strengthening prevention systems across sectors.

Investing in communities and future leaders

IVPC’s work with families and communities includes prevention efforts focused on youth violence, concussion prevention, home visiting programs, and firearm safety education, with tailored approaches for urban, rural, and military-connected populations.

During the 2024–2025 period, IVPC also invested nearly $90,000 in student scholarships and project awards, supporting undergraduate, graduate, and health professional students across the Rocky Mountain region and helping grow the injury and violence prevention workforce.

“As we celebrate the achievements of our faculty and students over the last year, we also look ahead to our continued responsibility to our community and Colorado as injuries and violence continue to claim far too many lives, disrupt families, and strain health care systems,” said Ashley Brooks-Russell, PhD, MPH, Director of IVPC.

“We are committed to our science having an impact on practice in ways that promote health and safety in our communities.”
