Following a national search, the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine announced the appointment of Micaela Gibbs, DDS, MHA, to Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.

Gibbs, who will start in June 2024, is an alumna of the CU School of Dental Medicine. Her work at other United States dental schools has brought her national recognition. She recently served as the Chief Dental Officer for the University of Texas Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, leading both clinical and operational facets of the clinical enterprise.

“It is very exciting for the University of Colorado to welcome Dr. Gibbs back home,” shared Denise Kassebaum, DDS, MS, dean of the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. “Her wealth of knowledge and expertise in clinical leadership will make her an asset to our faculty and the campus.”

Gibbs dedicated two decades to the University of Florida College of Dentistry. She served in several roles, including the Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science Interim Chair. She was responsible for the implementation and sustainability of all extramural clinical ventures, including predoctoral rotations at community sites, the execution of a robust global outreach initiative, and the operations of three external Advanced Education in General Dentistry clinics. She also oversaw a multi-million-dollar research mission involving investigators focused on multiple projects, including pain studies.

Gibbs’ passion and professional commitment lie in expanding access to dental care. She successfully procured more than $8M in grant funding as a principal investigator, primarily targeting special needs care delivery, educational program expansion, and enhancing access to care.

“We are thrilled that her broad experiences in dental education and her success in securing funds to support special patient populations align with our current innovation agenda,” said Kassebaum.

Gibbs will be appointed to the Department of Community Dentistry and Population Health.
