Hands holding heart

The University of Colorado Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is honored to announce that the A.F. Williams Family Foundation will contribute an additional 1.5 million dollars to our DFM endowment—bringing their total departmental commitment to 4.5 million dollars.

The Foundation is a long-standing supporter of DFM. Since 1977, when they made their initial investment to purchase and gift a building that became the original A.F. Williams Family Medicine Clinic, the DFM has greatly valued their investment and partnership. In addition, the Foundation endowed the very first leadership chair in the CU School of Medicine (SOM), and later three additional endowed chairs to help us recruit and retain top talent. Adding to their 2019 commitment establishing the A.F. Williams Department of Family Medicine Endowment, this most recent gift moves us closer becoming the very first endowed department in the SOM supported by much-needed long-term funds to continue pursuing innovative programs and ideas.

As the DFM pursues our mission and the aspirational goals laid out in our strategic plan, and launches our DFM Innovation Practice, we envision a healthcare future in which the patient is at the center of Family Medicine’s comprehensive and longitudinal team-based primary care. We envision Family Medicine as the model of whole person, life-long, and inter-generational clinical care, that sees each patient within the context of not only their immediate health concerns, but also as an individual informed by the larger contexts and influences of their family and community.

Amazing and generous donors like the A.F. Williams Family Foundation are truly the wind beneath our wings to pursue new programs and ideas. With this gift, the DFM is more able to achieve our department’s mission to Heal, Teach, Discover, and Connect. Together.
