Adopting healthier eating habits or managing weight can often feel overwhelming, but meal replacements offer a practical and effective solution. At the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, Health One meal replacements provide a convenient, nutritionally complete option for individuals looking to simplify their nutrition while staying aligned with their health goals.

“Meal replacements are pre-portioned, calorie-controlled products designed to provide essential nutrients comparable to a full meal,” explains Marsha Miller, Manager of Lifestyle Wellness Programs at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center. “They offer consistency and convenience, which can be especially helpful for busy individuals or those aiming to stick to a structured plan.”

Unlike many commercial options that focus heavily on protein, Health One meal replacements deliver a comprehensive nutrient profile, including essential vitamins and minerals. “Our meal replacements are not just about protein,” Coach Marsha emphasizes. “They are designed to meet daily nutrient needs, making them a well-rounded choice for health and wellness—not just weight loss.”

These meal replacements are designed to be incredibly versatile, far beyond the typical liquid shakes. While they can be quickly mixed with water or milk for a convenient meal, they can also be incorporated into a wide variety of sweet and savory recipes, from pizza to waffles, bagels, and much more. “In our programs, we even share recipes to help participants enjoy meal replacements in  creative and satisfying ways,” adds Miller.   These options provide flexibility, so you can enjoy traditional meals while still staying on track with your health goals, without feeling restricted by a liquid-only diet.

The AHWC integrates meal replacements into its 6-week My New Lifestyle program, where participants can use them as part of a structured eating plan. The first cohort is set to start February 20th, running weekly from 5 to 6 p.m., and a second cohort starts April 24th, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Both classes are held virtually via Zoom, making them accessible to participants wherever they are. The program includes one to three meal replacements per day, complemented by servings of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats. The class also features guidance from a registered dietitian and support from a certified personal trainer, providing a comprehensive plan that covers nutrition, exercise, and habit formation.

“Meal replacements can simplify meal planning and reduce decision fatigue around food choices, which is a common barrier for people trying to stay consistent with their goals,” says Coach Marsha. Participants in the program have experienced meaningful results, including an average weight loss of 5%, improved mental well-being, better blood pressure management, and healthier A1c levels.

While meal replacements are often associated with short-term weight loss, they can also play a role in living a healthy lifestyle long-term. “They’re a great option for convenience and balanced nutrition,” Coach Marsha explains. “Some people use them to kick-start their journey, while others continue incorporating them for the long term as a way to maintain their healthy habits.”

Health One meal replacements from AHWC offer a simple, balanced option for those looking to streamline their nutrition. Whether used alone or as part of a structured program, they can help support sustainable habits and make meal planning more manageable.

Meal replacements are available for purchase directly at CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center or online here. For more information on the 6-week “My New Lifestyle” program and to register, visit our website here.
