Tragedy Involving Baldwin Puts Spotlight on Traumatic Unintentional Events

Every year in the United States, there are thousands of unintentional injuries or deaths

Last week, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died and director Joel Souza was injured when actor Alec Baldwin, rehearsing a scene for the movie “Rust,” discharged a prop firearm on a movie set in New Mexico. 

We asked Steven Berkowitz, MD, professor of psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, about the psychological impacts an unintentional injury or death can have on all involved, and the steps one can take to heal in the wake of such an event.
