“Aplastic anemia is a rare diagnosis,” said Taizo Nakano, Pediatric Hematologist at Children’s [and associate professor of pediatrics and Taru Hays, MD Endowed Chair in Pediatric Hematology at CU School of Medicine].
 
Eventually, Laura McLaughlin [assistant professor of pediatrics at CU School of Medicine] enlisted Aubrie’s grandmother to help out. She was a match with Aubrie and was able to participate in a clinical trial that pulled immune cells from her and placed them in Aubrie.
