At Children’s Hospital Colorado, pediatric infectious disease specialist Kevin Messacar [professor of pediatrics] said RSV can be especially dangerous for babies because their airways are smaller and they can struggle to fight the infection. He said RSV may start like a cold but can quickly become serious, sometimes sending children to the emergency room or requiring oxygen and supportive care.
