Loretta Ford, co-founder of nurse practitioners, dies at 104

In collaboration with Henry K. Silver, a pediatrician at the University of Colorado, [Loretta Ford] started a novel program in 1965 providing advanced training to a handful of registered nurses who became the first nurse practitioners. The program initially was limited to pediatric nurses, who went on to staff rural and urban clinics for children who otherwise would have had little access to health care.
