CU Anschutz Professor, Audrey Hendricks, PhD, with data and technology background

We are proud to share that Audrey Hendricks, PhD, associate professor of biomedical informatics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, has been named the 2025 American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Education Award recipient.

“I’m deeply honored to receive this meaningful award,” Hendricks shared. “I’m incredibly grateful to collaborate with such inspiring educators at CU Anschutz, CU Denver and beyond. Their passion and teamwork make these programs and pathways possible.”

This national award honors individuals who have made meaningful and lasting contributions to human genetics education. Hendricks’ work is recognized for its innovation, broad reach and measurable impact. In addition to her role in biomedical informatics, she holds appointments in biostatistics and informatics as well as mathematical and statistical sciences. This cross-disciplinary foundation informs her teaching and has helped launch the careers of many students.

Hendricks has built programs that open doors for students from all backgrounds to explore genetics and genomics. She is the founder and co-director of two training initiatives, Pathways in Genomic Data (PATH-GDS) and Pathways in Genomic Research Experiences for Undergraduates (PATH-GREU), that help students gain hands-on experience and prepare for careers in research or industry. She also co-founded a Master of Science in Statistics and a subsequent five-year dual degree program at the University of Colorado Denver that allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Statistics, an innovative pathway that equips students with strong analytical skills.

“I’m passionate about making genetics, biomedical research, and scientific thinking accessible to everyone, especially those who may never have imagined science as a career path,” said Hendricks. “Now more than ever, we must continue creating opportunities for all. Even small efforts can make a world of difference.”

Hendricks has taught more than 20 courses and mentored dozens of students and early-career researchers. Her passion for teaching and dedication to mentorship have shaped the fields of genetics and data science and the personal and professional journeys of those she’s supported.

The ASHG Education Award recognizes educators who make a meaningful and far-reaching impact on genetics education. Hendricks has achieved this through her innovative teaching and commitment to building inclusive, hands-on learning experiences. Judging criteria include a lifelong commitment to teaching, prior recognition for excellence in education, the development of innovative or disruptive teaching approaches and demonstrable impact on students and the field. Hendricks’ work reflects that mission through her thoughtful teaching, program development and commitment to student success.

Please join us in congratulating Hendricks on this well-deserved recognition!
