Q: What inspired you to become a nurse?
A: I am not exactly sure, but apparently, even in my kindergarten wishes, I wanted to be a nurse! It must be something deep down that made me want to be in a caring profession and help others.
Q: Why did you choose to come to CU Nursing?
A: I loved that CU’s nursing program is well-respected across the country. I also loved that it was close to my home! It was nice to be able to work, care for my family, and participate in school all at the same time.
Q: What was your favorite part(s) about attending CU Nursing?
A: I really loved the week in the fall when we came together and learned in person. It was so nice to meet the colleagues that I worked with online. I also loved the group work, it is great to hear others’ ideas and bounce your own ideas off them!
Q: How did CU Nursing equip you with the knowledge to become an advanced practice nurse?
A: CU Nursing allowed me to think critically about the work needed to be accomplished in healthcare. With my latest degree, I learned the importance of strong leadership and how to implement changes within the healthcare setting. CU provided me with skills to do this, but most importantly, pushed my knowledge on how to encourage and implement change.
Q: What is the most rewarding part about being a nurse?
A: Caring for patients and creating relationships. I value family and relationships in my life, and being a nurse fills both of those buckets. I have been able to create bonds with families and coworkers that will always bring me joy.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to CU Nursing’s current students (at any degree level)?
A: Enjoy the process! There are stressful times and frustrating times while in school. Do not stress over the grade, but instead open your mind to the learning that is happening. And think outside the box!
Q: Why did you want to join the CU Nursing Alumni Association Board? What are you looking forward to about being on the board?
A: I was interested in helping a community that has provided me with quite a lot over the years. I am really looking forward to meeting other nurses and individuals within the CU Nursing community. Having worked for so many years at Children’s Hospital Colorado, I feel very comfortable in the community there, and I am excited to learn more about the nursing school. We are so lucky to have this amazing school in our backyard!
The CU Nursing Alumni Association Board of Directors is the governing body of the college’s alumni community. The board honors alumni with its Alumni Association Awards every June and hosts other events throughout the year. The board also plays a crucial role in mentoring students and other alumni, as well as providing professional development opportunities.
