The University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development is rolling out a new online pharmacy technician education program, designed to prepare individuals for a rewarding career as a pharmacy technician. Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing medications, managing inventory, and ensuring patient safety.
This fully online program offers a comprehensive and flexible learning experience for those looking to enter the pharmacy field and is supported by CU Pharmacy’s Associate Dean for Education, Jennifer Trujillo, PharmD.
“We’re proud to expand our educational offerings to support the growing need for well-trained pharmacy technicians,” said Dr. Trujillo “This program reflects CU Pharmacy’s commitment to preparing individuals for real-world impact and strengthening the pharmacy workforce through accessible, high-quality education.”
“Pharmacy technicians play a critical role in keeping pharmacies running smoothly. As pharmacists expand their roles in patient care, pharmacy technicians are stepping up to take on more responsibility. With thousands of new positions projected each year, pharmacy technicians are in high demand, make a meaningful impact and have endless opportunities,” said Rachel Wagmaister, Manager, Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development.
Wagmaister was instrumental in developing the program, partnering with the CU Anschutz Office of Digital Learning and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy to create a curriculum that aligns with the standards, mission, and values of CU Pharmacy. The program is approved by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), and upon completion, students are eligible to apply for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to earn the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential.
The new pharmacy technician education program has monthly rolling enrollment, with the first classes starting June 15. Click here to learn more.
