John and Angie Pierce's story began over two decades ago at a ski club happy hour in Austin, Texas. Their initial attraction blossomed into a lifelong partnership fueled by shared interests in snow skiing and scuba diving. John recalls being captivated by Angie's enthusiasm for diving, a passion that ultimately strengthened their bond and led to unforgettable adventures exploring dive destinations around the world.
Today, as members of the Fitness Center at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC), John and Angie continue to thrive as a team, both in life and in fitness. Their favorite workouts often involve the guidance of their personal trainer, Lauren Heap, allowing them to focus on the physical challenge without the need to overthink. For John, having Angie by his side makes the time fly during workouts, especially on those tough days when motivation is scarce. He says, “It makes the time go faster to work out together. Sometimes after a long day it's tough to get motivated, but easier if there are two of us.”
Angie echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the joy and camaraderie they experience as AHWC members. Whether they're tackling grueling exercises like sled pushes or simply enjoying each other's company in the gym, their partnership enhances every aspect of their fitness journey. When asked about the best thing about being fitness members together, Angie states, “I meet more people, have more fun, and try more exercises when John is around. He's really extraverted and likes to joke around
with the staff and other members.”
Lauren Heap, Fitness Manager, has been training John and Angie for years now and she describes their workouts as a perfect mix of focus, fun, and energy. She shares, "4 p.m. on Thursdays is a highlight of my week when I get to work with John and Angie! They bring such lightness and fun to the gym, and we always find plenty of laughs while getting our strength training in. It’s so fun to watch how they motivate and support each other." Their shared love for adventure has even inspired Lauren outside the gym. “They even helped encourage me to get my scuba refresher! They are truly a joy to work with and a big reason why I love my job—the people," she adds.
As they navigate life's adventures together, John and Angie Pierce exemplify the power of companionship in achieving fitness goals and finding joy in the journey. At AHWC, they've discovered not only a place to prioritize their well-being but also a community where their love for each other and for fitness can flourish.
