Cancer League of Colorado has generously pledged $150,000 to inspire others to support innovation in cancer research at the CU Cancer Center. CLC will match $2-to-$1 every gift made to the Investigator-Initiated Trial Program from now through September 30th, tripling donors’ impact and accelerating cancer research and developing new treatments.

The Investigator-Initiated Trial Program allows CU researchers the freedom and resources to explore new ideas they believe will make a difference for their patients. If their initial findings are promising, the researchers use it as evidence to compete for larger grants to expand their research, create new treatments and save lives. “CLC works like a seed. From the seed, we grow huge trees,” observed CU researcher Dr. Gongyi Zhang, who studies epigenetics and anticancer drug development.
Dr. Paul Bunn, a principal investigator at CU’s Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Lung Cancer, is also grateful for CLC’s support of basic science research. “The dollars raised by Cancer League are essential for the cancer research effort in Colorado, providing flexible dollars for novel ideas,” he said. “These novel ideas invariably lead to new grants and new ways to solve the cancer problem.”
Since its inception in 1969, Cancer League of Colorado has awarded almost $20 million for cancer research and patient care in Colorado. CLC has no offices and no paid staff, and is run by 400 dedicated volunteers who support research and programs for cancer patients, their family members and caregivers across the state of Colorado.
