This Week with Vineet

Dear Colleagues,

The October colors from Denver to Aspen are fantastic, and I hope you can take some time in the upcoming weeks to walk your neighborhood or take a trip to the mountains to witness the change in seasons.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals voting season is upon us. These rankings are important as many students, residents, faculty and patients consider these evaluations when deciding where to train, practice and receive care. While U.S. News considers multiple factors in ranking hospitals, the reputation surveys completed by you have major influence, so I encourage you to complete the surveys when it is released. You will be surveyed in specific categories matching your specialty. Please read this article, "Voting for U.S. News & World Report Hospitals Ranking," and register for Doximity – which you must do by Nov. 1 – to be included in the survey process.

The Research and Innovation Conference is off and running at 12 p.m. on Tuesdays in Conference Room 6101 in the Academic Office Building and we are delighted to have so many exciting speakers. Likewise, Grand Rounds are up and live in person with our Chief Medical Officer Jean Kutner, MD, MPH/MSPH discussing leading through the pandemic next week. I enjoy seeing and meeting many of you there and hope you can attend in person soon.

Stay tuned in the weeks and months to come for a Research Leadership listening tour. Janine Higgins, PhD, Vice Chair of Research, and Associate Vice Chairs Mary Weiser-Evans, PhD and Fernando Holguin, MD, will be setting up various engagements in the near future to listen to your thoughts on our research programs and portfolios. Please engage wholeheartedly as this new team ascertains our current state and plans for our future growth in research.

Finally, our Annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Event on Nov. 1 is approaching rapidly. We will be meeting in the Elliman Conference Center inside the Anschutz Health Sciences Building. We look forward to celebrating our colleagues for their many above and beyond contributions, and hope that you can join. If you have not done so, today, Oct. 21 is the last day to RSVP for the in-person only event. If you have any questions or concerns regarding nominations or the event itself, please reach out to Brita at brita.alley@ucdenver.edu.

Onwards,

Vineet
