For the first time in a Colorado U.S. Senate race, the Democratic and Republican candidates met for a forum focused solely on mental health. It took place this week at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.
Cases increased by 260 to 4,290, which is roughly where they were two weeks ago. The percentage of tests coming back positive also increased to 6.2%, from about 5.1% a week earlier — a fluctuation that’s probably not significant, said Beth Carlton, an associate professor of environmental and occupational health at the Colorado School of Public Health.
"It made them comfortable enough to tolerate having surgery on an insensate arm in comparison to usual care," said Dr. Adeel Faruki of UCHealth [and assistant professor at CU School of Medicine], who is one of the lead researchers on the study.
“Those with diabetes tend to have lower levels of HDL, and part of the risk of CVD in this group relates to this,” says Robert H. Eckel, MD, past president of the American Heart Association and professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. “The important message about cholesterol for those with diabetes is that blood cholesterol is probably as much, if not more, related to CVD than in the general population.”
The forum at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus marked the first time that candidates vying to represent the state in the U.S. Senate took a debate stage to take questions exclusively on mental health.
“This [is the] sort of study that people in my field dream about when we’re doing our Ph.D.s,” said Paul Norman, an associate professor of biomedical informatics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, who was not involved in the research.
