In the early days of the pandemic, when many people worried about where to find toilet paper, Sarah Rowan, MD, had deeper concerns. Rowan appreciated the sudden spotlight on frontline medical providers – they graced magazine covers and even large murals – but she noticed something was missing.
A bill approved this month and backed by the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences pushes open the door to highly effective HIV-prevention drugs, potentially curbing infection for the state’s most at-risk citizens.

As the nation struggles with a persistent epidemic of opioid addiction, the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is taking a critical step that will allow its graduates to better treat patients and save lives.
The next several months may be unnerving for some of our campus community, as the U.S. Supreme Court considers the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Since 2012, roughly 700,000 undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children have been protected from deportation by DACA, which enables access to education and work visas for many young undocumented immigrants.
Down syndrome is the least-funded major genetic condition in the United States. The Global Down Syndrome Foundation strives to change this pattern by holding a variety of events – its most high-profile being the “Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show” – to raise awareness and funds for research.

Colorado native Jeremy Bloom has “lived both” his dreams in skiing and football. His accolades speak for themselves: a three-time World Champion, two-time Olympian and 11-time World Cup gold medalist in skiing, and drafted in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Bloom is the only athlete in history to ski in the Winter Olympics and be drafted into the NFL, and is the youngest member ever inducted into the US Skiing Hall of Fame.
