CU College of Nursing Dean Provencio-Vasquez Appointed to NIH National Advisory Council on Nursing Research

AURORA, Colo. (July 29, 2020) – The University of Colorado College of Nursing Dean Elias Provencio-Vasquez was recently appointed to a four-year term to the National Advisory Council on Nursing Research, a federal advisory council to the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Provencio-Vasquez is one of 15 members on the Council to advise, assist, and consult with the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The Council is comprised of leading representatives from health and scientific communities including professional nurses who are recognized as experts in the area of clinical practice, education and research, as well as experts in public health, behavioral health, public policy, law, health policy, and economics.

Second Film Festival Installment Highlights Nurse Practitioners

The second installment of CU Nursing’s Virtual Film Festival showcased a giant in nursing – Loretta Ford, (EdD ’61, MS ’51, BSN ’49) – with the documentary titled Loretta Ford: A Disruptive Innovator. Soon to be 100 years old, Dr. Ford proves that age is just a number.

Study Finds Provider Capacity to Expand Abortion – Implications for Access During COVID-19

AURORA, Colo. (April 22, 2020) – Researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus have found that interest in abortion care among advance practice clinicians (APCs) in Colorado is substantial, though barriers must be addressed in order to increase access with APCs (nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physician’s assistants).

Great News for our CU Nursing Students and Alums

With the help of University of Colorado leadership, CU Nursing faculty, lobbyists, and State Representatives and Senators, Governor Jared Polis signed Executive Order D 2020 038 on April 15, 2020 to temporarily suspend State Board of Nursing statutes in order to expand the health care workforce. The Order temporarily suspends some State Board of Nursing rules for nursing programs. This allows our students to complete their programs in a timely fashion to help fight the Covid-19 outbreak, and also addresses the current nursing workforce needs in the state of Colorado.

Sheridan Health Services Receives More than $500,000 to Help in Coronavirus Relief Efforts

AURORA Colo. (April 9, 2020) – Sheridan Health Services, a University of Colorado College of Nursing nurse-led clinic in the Denver metro area, recently received $584,045 from the federal government as part of its Health Center Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Funds, administered by the Health Resources & Service Administration (HRSA).
